November 20 to 25, 2026. Join Andrés Preschel and a small group of ambitious founders for a five day retreat split between a sixty foot catamaran and private villas on Long Island, The Bahamas. Certify as a freediver in Dean's Blue Hole, island hop and spearfish by center console, eat what you catch, and learn to sail. Everything is included in one investment.
This is not a charter and it is not a conference on a boat. It is a short, dense week built around skill, water, food, and the people you share it with.
Open the trip living aboard and moving with the weather. Take the helm, trim a sail, swim before coffee, and go to sleep at anchor over white sand.
Train and certify in Dean's Blue Hole off Long Island, one of the deepest blue holes on earth. The course runs to 30 meters, about 100 feet. Most people certify at 20 meters, and nobody is pushed past what their body says yes to.
Learn to hunt on a single breath with an instructor beside you. Approach, aim, patience, and the ethics of taking only what the group will eat that night.
What you bring up gets broken down and cooked the same day, on deck or back at the villa. There is no shorter distance between effort and dinner.
After the sailing days, settle into private villas on Long Island. Center consoles run the group out each day to new cays, reefs and spearfishing grounds, and bring you home for dinner.
Everyone here is building something. Five days on the water with no agenda produces conversations that a dinner and a business card never will.
Cabin and villa, every meal from a gourmet chef, all freediving and spearfishing equipment, instruction, certification, and the boats that take you out each day. You book your flight and show up. Everything from there is handled.
The course runs to 30 meters, trained in Dean's Blue Hole, a 202 meter column of still blue water off Long Island. Almost nobody starts at 30. This is what the descent looks like, stage by stage, and where most people land.
Everything starts on the surface. Breath hold mechanics, relaxation, equalization, and the buddy and rescue protocols that make the rest of it safe. No experience assumed and none required.
Duck dive, free immersion down the line, and relaxed finning. Most people reach this on day one and are surprised how unremarkable it feels once the breathing is right.
Constant weight descents, the first taste of mouthfill, and a comfortable depth for reef and spearfishing. This is where the majority of the boat certifies, and it is a genuinely excellent place to finish.
The deep end of the course, for the small number of people whose equalization and comfort get them there inside the week. It is an option, never a target. Everyone else has a very good time at 20.
The certification is optional. Plenty of people come for the sailing, the spearfishing and the company, snorkel the reefs, and never sit a single course session. That is a completely legitimate way to spend the week.
John Kowitz is a freedive instructor and underwater photographer who left cold fresh water in Michigan and never really came back. He now teaches and shoots in the clearest water on the planet, from The Bahamas to French Polynesia.
He holds his breath past five minutes and works comfortably at depths most people only see through a screen. For this week he runs the freediving instruction, the safety protocols, and the guided spearfishing, and he does it with the patience of somebody who has taught a lot of first timers.

This trip does not run on a spreadsheet. Some days start under sail, some start at the villa. Here is the shape a day takes, and the honest caveat about how it gets decided.
Off the back of the boat, or straight off the villa dock, into whatever colour the water is that morning. Breath work while the kettle goes on.
On sailing days, hands on the lines and someone new on the helm every leg. On villa days, the center consoles load up and run out to the cays.
Line work with John, building to sessions in Dean's Blue Hole. Equalization, technique, and a personal best that keeps quietly moving.
Guided spearfishing for whoever wants it. Reef, sandbar, or a beach that nobody else is standing on for everyone else.
The chef takes the day's catch apart and cooks it, on deck or at the villa, while the light goes orange and then pink and then gone.
At anchor or on the villa terrace, no signal, no reason to be anywhere else. This is where the conversations that justify the whole trip happen.
A fixed day by day itinerary would be a fiction. Routing, dive sites and anchorages are chosen on the water by wind, weather and what the group wants. That flexibility is the point, and it is also why the week is better than a printed schedule.
Most people have never eaten something they caught themselves. It recalibrates how food tastes for a while afterwards.
One breath, one shot, an instructor within arm's reach. You learn to read the reef, pick a fish that should be taken, and leave the ones that should not.
On the swim platform, hands wet, learning where the fillets actually are. It is a skill that transfers straight to any kitchen you walk into afterwards.
A chef cooks it on deck, that same day, with the sun going down behind the rig. Nothing you order for the next month is going to compete with it.
The water is the reason you book. The people are the reason you come back.
Photographs from the last KYP retreat: Alaska, August 2026. A different ocean and a colder one, but the same crew, the same standard, and the same kind of people around the fire.
November is the same idea in warmer water. Catamaran instead of camp, reef instead of river, and thirty metres of blue underneath you instead of spruce.

Sail the crossing with us from Miami, or fly in and step aboard. Both land you in the same water.
Join the boat in Miami and make the crossing with the crew. You get the passage itself, real time on watch, and the part of sailing that only happens when land is out of sight. The best way to arrive if you actually want to learn to sail.
Short on time? Fly into The Bahamas and meet us at the rendezvous point. You skip the crossing and step straight into the islands with the rest of the group.
Dates are November 20 to 25, 2026, give or take a day at either end depending on weather windows. Hold your flights loosely and we will confirm the exact travel days well before you book.
Boats are small. Pack light, pack soft, and leave the hard suitcase at home.
All dive gear is included. If you own kit you love, bring it. If you own nothing, bring nothing. Both work.
Five days. One breath at a time. No signal, no schedule, and a boat full of people worth knowing.
$1,500 per guest holds your cabin. Cabins are limited by the size of the boat, and when they are gone they are gone.
